The summer is a great time for Show Ready Events.
July 10th, 2012
As we learned from Shawnna Estrella’s recent blog post, it’s a time where we re-claim our balance – both personally and professionally. In addition to taking time to breath,
reconnecting with our family and friends, and enjoying the beautiful weather, we
reflect on the past year and begin looking towards the next.
Looking back we could not be prouder of our role in the successful 2012 FIRST
Robotics Competition (FRC) season. Through careful, client based communication
Show Ready Events’ small core team was able to plan and manage 52 FRC regional
competitions across the United States, Canada and Israel.
A lot goes into making these regionals happen – a lot of people, a lot of places
and a lot of dollars. To give you an idea, seven SRE full timers planned each
regional, and 42 professional consultants were hired to help execute them. Fifty
venues and approx. 450 vendors, from caterers to carpenters, were used. And
roughly one million dollars was spent on catering for staff, volunteers, judges
and VIP’s. Like I said, a lot people, a lot of places and a lot of positive
results!
Those numbers do not include the FIRST Championship where approx. 30,000 FIRST
teams and fans from across the globe assembled at the Edward Jones Dome and
America’s Center Convention Complex in St. Louis, MO. This one show featured
hundreds of matches, big ceremonies, and dozens and dozens of meetings. During
the event over 18,000 hotel rooms were booked and over $500,000 was spent on
catering for staff, volunteers, judges, and VIP’s. We are constantly amazed at
how large this show gets, and how many moving parts it includes.
It’s impossible when reflecting on the year to not think about how fortunate we
are to have such a wonderful client in FIRST. It’s easy to work so hard for an
organization when you truly believe in their mission. We know not every company
is able to say that; we are so thankful!
After looking back and counting our blessings we begin to look towards the
future. We think about how we can improve every aspect of every show. How can we
simplfy? How can we go bigger? By continuing to work closely with our clients,
partners and venues, ask the right questions, offer interesting concepts, and
being open minded to change. Or more simply put....”We’re working on it”!
Happy Summer friends!
